Something genuinely different about this book is the clarity of thinking that comes from years in the BDSM community, and a true interest in representation.Sections like the brief paragraphs on aftercare are just really thoughtful: 'aftercare isn't over 30 minutes after the session, a simple text can make a sub feel better' is amazing advice.A bigger issue though is how the book welcomes EVERYONE to experience ropes bondageTexts that have good technical details like Shibari and Two Knotty Boys picture *just* women being bound, explicitly or implicitly by men. Two Knotty Boys also has a sort of chuckling tone of leering at a female submissive. Of course this stuff is sexual, but it feels like it breaks the boundaries of trust and respect right within the text.Lee's book portrays people of multiple genders and body types both binding and being bound. It also offers advice for bodies of different sizes.All this means I'm not ashamed to have it sitting open so that the sub can see it while I'm tying them.Technical junk:The detail views of knots are good, though like all extant shibari books you may wish for more detailed step-by-steps on some knots. Knots by Grog is a great resource for this.I have both the paper and kindle versions. Both are formatted well with a clear flow that's easy to flip back and forth in.The format of 'base harness and then variations' is nice, and there's good recommendations for how to practice certain ties.
This book was unfortunately not quite what I had in mind. I'm sure it's a great resource for beginners looking for a zero to 60 primer, but I was hoping there would be less about rope selection and more about how to use it. Don't get me wrong, there are some interesting configurations in the book, but it seems to be focused primarily on either absolute beginner ties or multi-rope macrame-style extravagance. There isn't much in between.
This has both pictures and descriptions and made knots very easy. It's beautifully illustrated and covers the most basic to intermediate knots. My favorite parts of this book is it was LGBTQ friendly (used same-sex couples in many of the pictures) and took into ALL body types and shapes. This book made me feel safe and comfortable with what both me and my top were doing.
Great basic ties, wish they had a few more "building blocks" like ways to tie off extra rope. Pictures and instructions are clear, writing humor makes for an easy read. Great diversity of models.
Can't say enough great things about this book! Easy to understand and follow directions to. Clear and easily explained information along with a brief history of the art! It's the feet book of this type I've seen yet, and this rope bunny has read a few!
Very informative. I was amazed at the amount of rope involved. I went from 60 feet to well over 300. An excellent section on rope care, which was very helpful to knowing what to purchase and how to care for it. I would highly recommend it
Can a book change your life? yes. have always been interested in shibari and my rope explorations was getting a little stale. previous books were a little too intricate for me......then I saw this book and WOW, rope is fun again. Well written with easy to understand photo illustrations and concise instructions. I bought the second book and cannot wait for it to arrive!
I'm extremely new to learning rope and purchased this book to help guide me. I attended several classes and left feeling overwhelmed from information overload. With this book and it's simply step-by-step instructions, I can use what I learned from the classes and practice at my own pace. I recommend this book.
